Recent developments in the post-soviet republics known as "Colorful Revolutions" have led to a variety of questions, among which three stand out:
1. What is the essence of these developments?
2. What is/are the cause(s) of these developments?
3. Will these developments be repeated in other republics?
Answering the foregoing questions, differing viewpoints have been put to the fore, each of which appraises regional developments from a distinct perspective.
In order to develop a better view of these opinions on regional developments, the Center for "Central Asia and the Caucasus Studies" will organize the 13th International Conference on Central Asia and the Caucasus entitled, "Regional Developments: Interaction and Encounter of Strategies" on Nov. 7th and 8th, 2005.
The following topics will be discussed in this forum:
- Domestic sources of development (political, security, economic, cultural, and social)
- The role of external actors (states, int'l organizations, NGOs)
- Future of regional security and stability
- Future of integrations and disintegrations
- Developments in the Caspian Sea region
Researchers, observers, and experts on the region are hereby invited to mail or e-mail their one-page typewritten abstracts either in Persian, English or Russian, in addition to their CV, by August 6, 2005 and their full-length article by September 11, 2005 to the Conference Secretariat at the following address:
