The OSCE Centre in Tashkent in partnership with OSCE CAYN Club, Legal Training-Centre (Tashkent), “Nihol” inishiative development and support Centre (Tash.region), and youth Centre “Ikbol” (Tash.region) is pleased to announce Call for Applications for "Youth of the XXI Century" Project, 2005-2006 Uzbekistan. The competition is open only for 1st year students of higher educational institutions of Tashkent and Syrdarya regions and the city of Tashkent of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The deadline for applications is 15 June 2005. The aim of the project is to raise youth’s awareness of and commitment to the principles of the OSCE and promote civic education via trainings on tolerance, conflict prevention, democratic values, gender awareness, leadership skills and role of youth in the society.
80 students will be selected to participate in the project that lasts for 1 year and consists of 5 phases:
• Summer school (12 days)
• Independent activities of students
• Winder school (12 days)
• Peer to peer trainings of students
• Follow up work of students in NGOs as trainers and volunteers
Active students who did well in Summer school and during independent activities of the project would be selected to participate in Winder School, where training for trainers will be organized.
The students who have undergone Summer and Winter schools will take up a responsibility to conduct, under the supervision of the OSCE Centre in Tashkent, 5 peer to peer trainings on the topic of civil education (taught at Summer and Winder schools) for their fellow students in higher educational institutions of Uzbekistan.
The working languages of the project are Russian and Uzbek.
Upon successful completion of the project participants will receive certificates and an opportunity to work as volunteers and trainers in NGOs.

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Centre in Tashkent works in close cooperation with the government of the Republic of Uzbekistan to promote the OSCE principles and commitments. The current project is implemented within “Youth Programme” of the Centre that aims to:
- Contribute to conflict prevention by promoting co-operation among students from different countries.
- Promote liberalisation and democratisation by increased knowledge of and commitments to the OSCE principles.
- Involve youth more actively in the development of the society by streamlining their participation in CiT’s activities, promoting OSCE principles, supporting student initiatives, and promoting student dialogue and debate on diverse issues.
OSCE CAYN Club (www.cayn.net)
OSCE Central Asian Youth Network Club (CAYN club) is part of the “Youth Programme” of the Centre. The Club includes student participants of CAYN and aims to attract youth into the activities of the Centre and increase their participation in the social life of the country.
Legal Training-Centre (www.ltc.uz)
Mission – Contributing to legal awareness raising of the population, activisation of citizen participation and increasing their role in the building of civil society. Centre holds educational programmes, seminars, trainings on human rights, monitoring of human rights implementation, and participates in the development conflictology education strategy to reach its aims.
Selection
The selection of project participants will be done in 2 rounds: 1 – applications have to be filled in and submitted by email (cayners@yahoo.com) before 15 June 2005. 2 – Selected applicants will be invited for interviews that are to be held 24-26 June 2005.
The first phase of the project, Summer School, for which 80 students will be selected, is to be held 8-20 August 2005 in Tashkent region.
