Welcome to the YouthActionNet essay contest. Twice each year we offer young people the chance to put forth their ideas for a better world - and have them heard. The theme of our current essay contest is youth employability. Deadline for submissions is 1 June 2005.
Across the globe, the face of unemployment is increasingly becoming a young one. What is economic justice and what can young people do to help achieve it? How can young people make themselves more employable? What role does education play in creating avenues for employment? What can young people do to ensure livelihoods for themselves and future generations?

In a 700-word essay, elaborate on one of the following:

1. What do young people need to help them make the smoothest transition from education to employment?

Or

2. Write a letter to the leader of your country's government beginning with the words, "Dear Mr. President (or Prime Minister, etc.), as an unemployed young person, I think you should know that....
